Thanksgiving
I was away all of last week, visiting my family in Roanoke, VA for Thanksgiving. This morning, while reading the school newspaper, I came across the University chaplain’s weekly writing, titled “The Chaplain’s Corner.” He wrote about a poem by George Herbert, a 17th century Welsh poet, and how most people know the beginning but not the end.
The poem is as follows:
Lord, Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, - a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.
Looking back on the past week and the poor attitude I had during part (if not most) of the week, I realize I need to try harder to have a grateful heart at all times, not just when I’m doing or receiving something that pleases me.
My apologies to all those I hurt in the past week….
