Leaders Meeting
Today I pose a question to the readers of this site (assuming there are any): What do you do if the members of a committee (all of whom are volunteers) which you lead need to meet and there isn’t a single day and time when everyone is available?
Do you a) meet when the most members are available, b) meet when the fewest members are available, c) “force” people to rearrange their schedules so the entire group can meet, d) hold the meeting by yourself and choose to do what you like, or e) other?
Feel free to answer with a comment… or not. ![]()

When we formed our homeowners’ association finance committee, we started by scheduling our monthly meeting when the most people were available. The following month, we picked a time when the person who missed the first meeting was available that afforded the most other people to show up. Each month we accommodate, when possible, the person who missed the last meeting.

Rick says “e”
Hold the meeting when the most people who agree with you are available.

Tim,
could you starting next fall set up a time that would be apart of the volunteer expectations? for instance, maybe the third wed of every month there will be a meeting after the program…as for this year; i agree with Terry; but also could you possibly record the the meetings and post it online…whether it is just audio or possibly video (short summary)?
just a thought. hope it helps.

I ended up going with option a) meet when the most members are available, though I really like Terry’s comment about holding the meeting when the most people who agree with me are available… I’ll have to keep that in mind for the future.

Considering my new role at work, and volunteer stuff I’ve done outside of work (though haven’t lately, see “work”), I have to say “A” is really all I end up doing. Of course, I end up meeting with those that couldn’t make the meeting individually, to be sure I got their input on the crucial matters.
Very tempting to select “d”, though I know I shouldn’t.
